The Florida Food Policy Council enters a new chapter with a bold, justice-centered vision for our state’s food future. After years of listening sessions, research collaborations, and on-the-ground partnerships, we’ve reconnected our mission to the larger ecosystem of equity—linking food, housing, climate, and health. From our work with the Right to Food National Community of Practice and One Community Grocery Co-op to national collaborations with The Highland Project, INFAS, NAFSN, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, we’re weaving together local voices and national leadership to create a resilient, community-led food system for all Floridians.
Our Mission:
The Florida Food Policy Council creates opportunities to collaborate, celebrate, and advance equitable food policies to improve quality of life.
In accordance with Federal civil rights law, The Florida Food Policy Council prohibits discrimination based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or age within its membership, programs, publications, and decision making among its Board of Directors.
Future Projects:
Building on nearly a decade of grassroots organizing and statewide collaboration, the Florida Food Policy Council is preparing to launch a new phase of community-driven research, mapping, and policy action.
GIS Mapping and Data Equity Project:
FLFPC will expand its technical assistance and policy research capacity through a GIS mapping initiative designed to visualize food access, land use, and environmental justice data across Florida. This project will equip local coalitions, researchers, and decision-makers with spatial tools to identify disparities, track policy change, and guide equitable investment in food, land, and health systems.
Community Food Assessments and Listening Sessions:
We will continue hosting regional listening sessions and town hall meetings—spaces where residents, growers, advocates, and policymakers can shape solutions together. These conversations will inform a series of Community Food Assessments that document local conditions, barriers, and opportunities within the food system. The assessments will support regional action plans and help communities advocate for policy and funding priorities grounded in lived experience.
Technical Assistance and Capacity Building:
Through this work, FLFPC will provide tailored support to community-based organizations, municipal partners, and grassroots leaders seeking to develop food policy councils, resilience hubs, and right-to-food campaigns. By combining data tools with on-the-ground facilitation, our goal is to strengthen Florida’s collective capacity for just and resilient food systems.
